Q: When did you decide to start doing animation?
A: He decided he wanted to do this for a career after he graduated high school
Q: How did you get into it?
A: He started as a child doing his own movies and comic strips
Q: What is your favorite part of being an animator / Director?
A: He likes writing his own his own scripts and loves it when he finds something that inspires his creative passion. He works in an ever changing atmosphere so there is plenty of inspiration for more scripts.
Q: Why did you choose to produce How to Train Your Dragon?
A: He was called by DreamWorks and was asked if he would come and direct the movie that was already in production. He came in and pulled this production together with only a year and a few months until the release date.
Q: How do you pick your projects?
A: He pitches ideas to the movie studios or parts are offered to him.
Q: How does it feel to work with two of the best animation companies in the world (Disney and DreamWorks)?
A: He loved the incredible resources, great animators, and the limited restrictions.
Q: Do you like one studio more then the other?
A: He works only for DreamWorks now and loves DreamWorks more with all the benefits and people there.
Q: Do you write as well as create animation?
A: He does write as well as direct and a perfect example is Lilo & Stitch which he solely created and did the voice of the lovable alien Stitch.
Q: What did you major in college to get you into this career?
A: He majored in character animation and filmmaking in college at the University Of California, San Diego.
Q: What does a normal day look like for you?
A: His normal work day, according to him, is like a regular work day with shifts from 9 to 6, and some nights and weekends.
Q: What project would you like to do next?
A: He would like to do something new and different and challenging for him as well.
I really liked talking with Chris Sanders because he was really polite and showed a high interest in talking about his job and the things he does in his career. I got an insight into what a famous director does and what he has passions for. Overall, it was great to talk to him about his job and life in the movie business.
